Guess what "Not again placed on intent calendar 5/18/2021" means?
It means SB 1968 is no longer going to the Senate floor for a vote on Tuesday.
Senator Bettencourt's Family Educational Relief Program was pulled off the Intent Calendar for May 18th by Lt. Governor Patrick because he took score and four unidentified Republican Senators said they will vote "No" on SB 1968. That means the bill does not have enough votes for a majority among the 31 Senators. So the Senate won't even bring it up.
So we will never see who is for our Priority and who is against it.
Is that okay?
Should they get "cover" by not having to vote on the record?
You chose School Choice for All as one of the Republican Legislative Priorities for this session.
School Choice is one of your ten enduring Principles at the top of the Platform.
SB 1968 now awaits Lt. Governor Dan Patrick's allowing it to be scheduled for a vote again on the Senate floor. He does not plan to, since he expects it to fail.
Please contact the office of Lt. Governor Patrick, Governor Abbott and all the Republican Senators right away to ask them to boldly put SB 1968 back on the Intent Calendar this week, no matter what the expected vote outcome.
Ask for a vote on the record on the Senate floor. (If you want to give the bill's author and supporters a "pass," skip contacting Senator Bettencourt, Senator Campbell and Senator Hall.)
